Class and Group Visits
The Magnes offers self-guided and staff-led visits for classes and groups.
As a museum and research center at UC Berkeley, the Magnes preserves, studies, and interprets its holdings to generate new knowledge and understanding of Jewish cultures with and for its academic and public communities. Class and group visits provide collections-based opportunities for research, teaching, learning, and creative expression.
Self-guided Group Visits
The Magnes welcomes self-guided group and class visits to the museum during the public hours of Sunday, Tuesday, and Wednesday from 11am-4pm and Thursday from 11am-7pm unless a program is scheduled.
For self-guided visits, the museum can accommodate groups of up to 20 people a time. Larger classes and groups will be divided into smaller groups for staggered visits.
Please submit your request form at least two weeks in advance to ensure we will be able to accomodate your group.
Staff-led Academic Group Visits
Class visits involving museum staff may be scheduled between 9:00 am and 4:00 pm Monday to Friday during the academic year. We are able to schedule 1 class per week.
The Magnes can accommodate groups of up to 20 people a time. Larger classes will be divided into groups for staggered visits.
For staff-led non-UC Berkeley class visits, a fee of $10 per person or $100 minimum will be charged.
We offer a limited number of need-based scholarships for school groups and nonprofit organizations, as indicated in the form.
For guided tours and class visits, please submit the below request form at least four weeks prior to your visit.
Staff-led Community Group Visits
Community group visits involving museum staff may be scheduled during the public hours of Sunday, Tuesday, and Wednesday from 11am-4pm and Thursday from 11am-7pm depending on museum availability.
The Magnes can accommodate up to 20 people at a time (larger groups may visit in rotation).
For staff-led visits, a fee of $15 per person or $150 minimum will be charged for community groups (e.g. synagogue affinity groups, collectors’ groups, book clubs, etc.).
Please submit your request at least four weeks in advance. We will make every effort to respond to your request within a week.
