The Magnes Collection of Jewish Art and Life spoke with Donna Chazen after her recent visit to view “Time Capsules. The Magnes: 10 Years UC Berkeley.” Her grandfather, Louis Morrison (1883-1955), built the portable Torah Ark from Rock Springs, Wyoming, one of three on display in the exhibition.
The story behind the Torah Ark of Rock Springs, Wyoming and the small “basement” Congregation Beth Israel that used it highlights The Magnes’ focus on preserving the legacy of Jewish communities around the world.
