These pages are devoted to the intense publication history of the former Judah L. Magnes Museum, which began in 1963, shortly after the museum was established. Please note that the information collected here serves the purpose of preserving the institutional history of The Magnes, and that these publications are not on sale at The Magnes Collection of Jewish Art and Life. They may be available for purchase online or through antiquarian booksellers. Many of these publication are included in the Reference Library of The Magnes.
The publications of The Magnes have traditionally focused on its holdings, whether the museum collections or the Western Jewish Americana archives, especially through exhibition catalogs, and its programs, such as the literary and video competitions organized by the museum since the 1970's. At the same time, the Judah L. Magnes Museum acted as a catalyst in the study of Jewish culture in the global Diaspora and the Holocaust.
A separate list of publications of the Magnes, made exclusively of bibliographic entries, is also maintained on OCLC Worldcat.
