Global India: Kerala, Israel, Berkeley, curated by Francesco Spagnolo, unveils the extensive holdings of The Magnes Collection of Jewish Art and Life documenting the history of the Jewish community in Kerala, South India. The exhibition includes over one hundred individual items, many of which were never catalogued before.
Dr. Barbara C. Johnson (Professor Emerita, Ithaca College), an anthropologist specializing in Kerala, served as Visiting Scholar for the exhibition, Global India: Kerala, Israel, Berkeley (The Magnes, 2013). Currently a Visiting Scholar in South Asia Program at Cornell University, Johnson is the editor of the CD Oh Lovely Parrot!: Jewish Women’s Songs from Kerala (2004) and the co-author, with Ruby Daniel, of Ruby of Cochin: An Indian Jewish Woman Remembers (1995).
