Lara Michels
Lara Michels, PhD, an archivist and historian with a special interest in increasing public access to and awareness of archival and library collections, was the Archivist and Librarian at the Judah L. Magnes Museum since 2008. Her work was instrumental in the transfer of the Western Jewish Americana archives to The Bancroft Library at the University of California, Berkeley in 2010-11.
Michels holds a master’s degree in Library and Information Science from the University of Wisconsin, Madison (2002) as well as an M.A. in Women’s Studies and a Ph.D. in Comparative History from Brandeis University (2000). She worked at the University of Wisconsin, Madison’s College Library and at the Wisconsin Historical Society. In addition to her archives and library work, Lara has taught history at the University of Wisconsin, Oshkosh and Women’s Studies at Diablo Valley College.
