Learning and Engagement Coordinator

Dan Alter

Dan Alter is the Learning and Engagement Coordinator at the Magnes Collection of Jewish Art and Life.

He has worked as a Jewish educator for decades with people of all ages and was the founding director of the East Bay Ramah Day Camp. Dan has taught, guided tours, coordinated and facilitated events, and led summer trips in both the Bay Area and Israel. A published poet and translator, he has led Jewish poetry classes and organized poetry panel events locally and around the country.

Dan holds a Masters degree in Jewish studies from the Graduate Theological Union and an MFA in poetry writing from Saint Mary’s College of California. He lives in Berkeley with his wife and daughter.

Dan joined the Magnes staff in 2024.
