Magnes “Jewish Digital Narratives” project featured in AJS Perspectives (Spring 2010)

Published biannually, AJS Perspectives, The Magazine of the Association for Jewish Studies, is the leading forum for exploring methodological and pedagogical issues in Jewish studies.  Past issues have focused on German Jewish Studies, Sephardic Studies, Imperialism, and the 350th anniversary of the American Jewish community.  Ongoing features include technology and Jewish studies research; reviews of museum exhibits and catalogs; and issues for graduate students and early career scholars. 

“The Museum Issue,” published in the Spring of 2010, includes an article by Jeffrey Shandler (Rutgers University), on Teaching Jewish Studies with Museums (p. 30-31), which features the Magnes’ Jewish Digital Narratives project: 

“Some museums have developed sophisticated use of the Internet as an interactive medium. For example, Francesco Spagnolo, director of research and collections at the Judah L. Magnes Museum in Berkeley, California, has initiated the Jewish Digital Narrative project, which invites visitors to the museum’s website to explore materials from its archive, add comments to curated online displays of these items, and even fashion their own narratives with them.”
