We all have stories to tell. Where do you come from? Where did your grandparents come from? How have their backgrounds or actions influenced you? Do some objects in your life have stories to tell about who you are?

In this workshop, artist, storyteller, and educator Leah Yael Levy (she/they) will share some basic comics terms and then the group will dive into creating short graphic stories based on memories.

Perfect for teens and older!

About the Artist: Leah Yael Levy

Leah Yael Levy is a mixed media artist, storyteller, printmaker and educator based in Berkeley, CA. Yael is an American, an Israeli, an Arab and a Jew. A human manifestation of ‘yes, and’. She believes the creative process to be its own reward and the act of making an incredible tool for healing and growing.

She draws, paints, collages and writes. She often self-publishes her work, and sometimes prints and binds it by hand. She makes non fiction comics based on her own experience as a brown, bi-racial, bilingual and bisexual woman. Since this can be a-lot to unpack, she often takes more pleasure in telling others’ stories, making up imaginary creatures or just painting images of beautiful nature. She is the creator of Biscuit Beast, a lovable being who can teach you how to make zines and spread love. Recent creations also involve a lot of bird related art and Riso printing.
