Harold Edelstein was president of the Manasse-Block Tanning Company in Berkeley, Calif.; member of the Advisory Committee of the Office of Price Stabilization and served on the Berkeley War Council, where he helped that organization fulfill its mandate of initiating, coordinating, and directing all World War II activities that affected Berkeley and that required organized community action.
Minutes; financial reports; and correspondence relating to the Berkeley War Council (1943-1949). Materials about the Council include items relating to child care; consumer interests; housing; education; nutrition, medical care, and health; and community centers. Also has notes, correspondence, and information about the Office of Price Stabilization (1951-1953); an article (1968), on the Manasse-Block Tanning Company; and a photograph (1941) of a Berkeley B’nai B’rith lodge that shows Edelstein and other prominent members of the East Bay Jewish community.
