History

Publications

Explore the rich publication history of the former Judah L. Magnes Museum, which began shortly after the museum was established in 1963 and see how it acted as a catalyst in the study of Jewish culture in the global Diaspora and the Holocaust.

The Magnes publications have traditionally focused on its collections and Western Jewish Americana archive holdings through exhibition catalogs and its programs, such as the literary and video competitions organized by the museum since the 1970’s.

Many of these publications are included in the Reference Library of The Magnes. A separate list of publications of The Magnes, made exclusively of bibliographic entries, is also maintained on OCLC Worldcat.

Please note that the information collected here serves the purpose of preserving the institutional history of The Magnes, and that these publications are not on sale at The Magnes Collection of Jewish Art and Life. They may be available for purchase online or through antiquarian booksellers.
