Giving Tuesday at the Magnes
Together we can do extraordinary things.
Join us December 3, 2024 for Giving Tuesday to help raise $5,000 to support programs at the Magnes, including our Jewish Arts and Book Fest celebrating Jewish American Heritage Month.
The Magnes offers a broad range of programs to generate discourse; connect our campus and public communities with Jewish history, culture, and life; and create opportunities for people to connect with one another. Upcoming educational and public programs include lectures, performances, and scholarly discussions with authors, artists, and historians.
In May of 2024, the Magnes partnered with Berkeley Unified School District to welcome families with children to the museum for a special community day in celebration of Jewish American Heritage Month which included hands-on activities and a live performance.
As we continue to provide engaging educational programming, the Magnes will once again invite the community to gather in celebration of Jewish American Heritage Month for a Jewish Arts and Book Fest on Sunday, May 4, 2024.

The richness and sheer size of the Magnes Collection at the University of California, Berkeley encourages reflection on the intersection of past and present. Jewish objects of ritual and daily life from across the globe make up the collection and fill the museum. A visitor can encounter a Torah ark from Kerala, India, kosher tableware from the Queen Mary ocean liner, a Moroccan hamsa-shaped amulet for household protection, and photographs of Jewish life in Eastern Europe in one afternoon. These objects reveal the diversity of Jewish life around the world and testify to the persistent vitality of Jewish values and cultures.
The Magnes has a long history of presenting collaborative programs that bring this collection to life and break new ground in Jewish studies.
Join us by donating to the Magnes in support of our programs this Giving Tuesday.
“There aren’t many places in the world where a group can gather and simply appreciate the beauty and diversity of the human experience. That is why I believe the Magnes is truly a fantastic part of the Berkeley community, for it allows those from all walks of life to come together and learn from each other… a museum is where history should be shared and people should feel understood.”
