Special Guest: Sheer Ganor, Graduate Student in History, UC Berkeley
This session will bring us into conversation with archival ephemera from the Jewish refugee camp in that operated in Shanghai, China during the Second World War in the Magnes Collection. Specifically we will examine identification documents, High Holiday tickets[c], a representation of living conditions, and a discriminatory sign from the city of Shanghai prohibiting entrance of stateless refugees. Sheer Ganor will help contextualize these objects, offering them for discussion in the context of stateless refugees in displaced persons’ camps in the UK after the Holocaust.
