Remembering Warren Hellman (1934-2011)

We are deeply saddened by the passing if Warren Hellman, who died yesterday in San Francisco. An outstanding figure in the Bay Area, Warren was instrumental in the creation of The Magnes Collection of Jewish Art and Life at the Bancroft Library.

Although he did not get to celebrate the official opening of our new facility, Warren had a chance to visit it this summer, and to appreciate its potential. A successful financier, a generous philanthropist, and an avid musician, he would have played his banjo at our opening on January 22nd.

Our thoughts are with his family at this time. May his memory be a blessing.
