Mizrach (Southern Germany, 18th cent.)

Detail of a multicolored "mizrah" with figures of Moses and Aaron flanking a two-columned architectural frame decorated with chevron motif and supporting an arch topped by garlands. The large word, "mizrah" (Hebrew for "East"), is written in elaborate red block letters at center, with a related ritual phrase written above and below.
