History

People & Institutions

Since its founding in 1962, the Magnes has been a veritable hub of Jewish culture, scholarship, and community action.

This section of the Magnes website is devoted to the people and the institutions that gravitated around the Magnes for almost half a century. During this time, and often through the energetic approach of founder Seymour Fromer, professional careers have been jump-started, new scholarly perspectives have been tested out, and the concept of integrating Jewish communal activism with academic and general public interests was established.
